Does someone want to clarify this?
That's right.
CCP - How about using North America instead of US ? We're two whole, distinct countries in there.

I meant to create a distinction between Canada and US, not be geographically correct about what North America is.

Nobody really lost the War of 1812 except for the Natives, who were used and then the promises they got for helping were broken and they were cast aside. "Canada" didn't exist at the time, but the British colonial militia was a small minority of the British forces involved in the war. More significantly, no colonials took part in the Burning of Washington. The myth that "Canada burned down the White House" is just that. The Canadian government spending many millions commemorating this war is essentially just nationalistic propaganda.
That's not correct, and it's not a myth. Canada did exist at the time, but not under the current constitution. You had Upper Canada and Lower Canada, and British Colonial forces were also accompanied by the French Canadian militia. US President Jefferson thought conquering Canada would be a mere formality and eventually ate his socks roasted, as the British forces burned to the ground every single major building in Washington DC on August 24 1814, including the Congress Library, the Treasury and the White House. |

In my opinion i can't stand to think of countries.... why can't people just get along and accept other peoples ways of life, religions, and cultures. <--- from a US American citizen. ( and no, im not fat XD )
It's history not politics ;) But you're right, we should all get along.
Let's now move on with the "US chicks are the hottest" thread. From a canadian citizen. |

Well, partly because the bicentennial is right now and not sometime up to 30 years ago, and partly because we've only had Dear Leader in charge for a short time. And I guess partly because you don't like to read the news. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/06/14/pol-war-of-1812-bicentennial-federal-events.htmlWe're spending more than $28 million commemorating this bullshit, meanwhile all sorts of good programs are being cut to save money. The Conservatives are a joke for a lot of reasons, but being the party of "fiscal responsibility" while they waste millions on 1812 nonsense and billions on fighter jets makes that particular line about them such an obvious lie. Holy ****! I initially thought you meant the 1812 celebration was a yearly thing. I don't watch the news much and being from Qu+¬bec all that's on right now is about the provincial elections here. This is outrageous! $28 millions to commemorate a "war" against a friendly nation? We should be spending that money to strike it from the history books, lest the U.S. decide to wage their war on drugs up here...
Oh my God. Leave it to Conservatives and Stephen Harper to waste our money. I won't get started here..." |
